Poushawn Brown was a loyal Amazon employee for four years. Last winter, Poushawn was assigned to Amazon’s Covid-19 testing team at one of its Virginia warehouse, despite having no medical background. Three months later she got sick and died.
“I’m assuming it was to save money. [Jeff Bezos] has more money than anyone in the world,” Poushawn Brown’s sister Christina told More Perfect Union. “He could have hired a group of doctors, nurses just to be there on call or even have a little trailer outside each facility to just do COVID testing or do them from 6:00 AM to noon. I’m not quite sure why he had other employees training other employees and administrating and demonstrating COVID tests to other employees.”
By October 2020, Amazon reported that 20,000 employees had contracted Covid. It’s unknown how many Amazon workers have died of Covid-19.
Poushawn leaves behind a 12-year-old daughter and a devastated family. Amazon has refused to provide or discuss any financial compensation with her family. You can help support her family by contributing to their GoFundMe here.
