Building power for working people

Port Truckers Lead Historic Union Drive

Los Angeles truckers are fighting against misclassification as independent contractors.

XPO Logistics drivers are being denied basic rights while their company reported their highest revenue in 2021. Now they’re leading a historic union drive to fight for their well-deserved rights.

Workers say they’re not paid for missing work due to COVID. As contract workers, they’re unable to apply for unemployment or receive benefits. And workers often end a full 40+ hour week owing the company money.

“They publicized how they are a strong company, but with a sense of humanity. Then act like it, because the company is very mean-spirited,” says one driver.

NRLB General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo wants to revive the Joy Silk Doctrine to support union drives. The doctrine would force employers to recognize a union where there’s majority support.

A victory could set a historic precedent for misclassified workers nationwide.
