Striking John Deere workers are furious about the company’s contract offer, which would give them only a $2-3 raise over 3 years. Deere’s CEO made $15.6 million in 2020 — a 160% raise.
The proposed contract between Deere and the UAW calls for an immediate 5% or 6% raise for factory workers, depending on the job, plus a 3% pay increase in 2023 and 2025.
UAW members overwhelmingly voted down the deal and walked out for the first time since 1986. This is the largest private sector strike in 2 years.
