Here’s Why 10,000 John Deere Workers Are on Strike
"John Deere made billions and threw us peanut shells... We’re supposed to scoop them up?"
Striking John Deere workers are furious about the company’s contract offer, which would give them only a $2-3 raise over 3 years. Deere’s CEO made $15.6 million in 2020 — a 160% raise.
The proposed contract between Deere and the UAW calls for an immediate 5% or 6% raise for factory workers, depending on the job, plus a 3% pay increase in 2023 and 2025.
UAW members overwhelmingly voted down the deal and walked out for the first time since 1986. This is the largest private sector strike in 2 years.
