Google prides itself on the motto “Don’t Be Evil,” but for years the tech giant worked closely with Customs and Border Patrol and assisted the U.S. military’s drone operation. When 1,000 workers petitioned to break their contract with CBP and raised concerns about the project to analyze drone footage for the U.S. military called “Project Maven,” Google cracked down.
The company created a Chrome extension warning them about setting up a meeting of more than 100 people in an effort to bust organizing meetings and fired five of the lead organizers to prevent further organizing and unionization efforts.
We spoke with three of the engineers fired for their vocal organizing.
